The first edition of Grappa & Friends took place on September 2nd 2017 in Camois (Ao).
The autumn like weather conditions helped to selection the real estimators and made easier the tasting of many types of Grappa presented by 24 producers.
Delegate of ANAG Valle d’Aosta and Sommeliers took the audience through a unique tasting trip among Grappa, spirits and Liqueurs produced in Valle d’Aosta, Trentino Alto Adige and Piedmont.
Each tasting was accompanied by the band called Trouveur Valdotèn. Specialities both for visitors and exhibitors were prepared by Mario Pucci, the restless president of the local Pro Loco. We would like to thank him and his staff composed by Davide, Simone, Salvo, Adriana, Francesca, Osvaldo, Marco and Nicolas.
The restaurants of the village, Maison Cly, da Pierina and Bar della Funivia prepared specialities with Grappa in order to make the event even more original and charming. That’s why Grappa Club will organize a richer, more interesting and captivating second edition in 2018.
The curtain fell on this special event.
It’s now time to thank the personnel of Chamois Municipality, Chamois Services, Chamois tourism Office which did even more than the requested spending time and employing human resources for the success of the event.

Even women are capable to kill. But there’s no need to stop loving them, though. Dying for love (mourir d’aimer) is an amazing thing to do. Trust those who experienced this emotion. In heaven i’ll kill those fool ones who imposed that kind of fake health terrorism that labels cigars’ packages when I find them. It’s ok for cigarettes because they are wrapped in paper. It’s ok for Avanas (or Habanas) which look always the same (the ones that belong to the same brand and type, obviously). It’s ok for Brissagos, the ones described by the italian poet Eugenio Montale in a very sad poem called Parole (Words). What about Davidoffs? Nevermind. Anyway Toscano didn’t deserve that kind of outrage. Toscano is various, versatile, it is influenced by the surrounding air and it reproduces the flavour of time. It’s enough.
This year we are going to celebrate the bicentenary of cigar. God forgot to create it on a late Friday night. The day after was His day off. On Sunday he forgot about it because He was so busy among all those beautiful things he had created before. So in 1815 – Lord, for you a thousand years look like our yesterday, like an a watchover night – the psalmist says. Where Psalm 89 – He send a rainfall pouring on the lying drying tobacco and voilà: Toscano was born. On the 8th day, as the American playwright and novelist Thornton Wilder used to explain.
Want to know more about this wonders of God’s creation? Click here: it is the report of an exhibition in Rome in 2011, now it can be visited on a book. Or click here for the technical info.
We invited some random friends and admirers to celebrate it:
Here are some of Italian politicians:
Among artists, but not musicians:
We are not going to talk about journalists.
Cinema.
Nowadays Clint Eastwood’s cigar in A Fistful of Dollars is the most famous Toscano. Here you’ll find a gallery of other famous Toscanos, included The Prince of Salina – Burt Lancaster’s Gattopardo – and Totò in La banda degli onesti in the scene showing him buying a cigar to get rid of a fake banknote. Here you’ll see him in another movie, because he doesn’t smoke in the previously mentioned one. You’ll find a picture of Alberto Lattuada lighting up half a cigar and a non identified lady. Women smoke Toscano as well. Lately the singer Nada Malanima (previously known as Nada) converted to this religion (when she was younger actually).
Here you’ll find a gallery of common people over the last years. Amazing.
We couldn’t close this gallery without mentioning don Luigi Giussani, great estimator of Toscano and brave fighter against the terrorist warnings on the boxes. And what about Don Gallo (a famous communist priest of the street who helped the broken ones in his long life)? He’s part of the gallery as well.
We need to mention a poem (probably surrealist) that turned into a nursery rhyme:
The little boat on the sea
leading to Santa Fè
to load half a kilo of coffee
The captain has a red and blue beard
He comes from Perù
And he smokes a Toscano

He’s tipically and strongly italian, virile.
He has a strong and unique attitude and he’s very successful both in Italy and abroad.
Love him or not but if you do he’ll be the perfect companion to share great moments with.
She’s italian, just italian. Seducing, capable to change her attitude to fit every occasion, humble and noble at the same time. A loyal and strong companion.
We are not gossiping but we are talking about two real authorities that do their best when together.
The Cigar from Tuscany and Grappa. The king and the queen of Italy.
They don’t love the hustling and bustling everyday life, they share the same time and they need the same surroundings. Relax, friends, a cosy ambient, a fireplace and some good music in the background.
This site will give you the perfect matchings to create a memorable night.
The selling of 1018 bottles of grappa Cornalin and Syrah will support a project sponsored by The Disabilities Board in Valle d’Aosta.
This confirms the bond and the strong rooting of Distilleria Levi with its territory. As usual this year Distilleria Levi has produced the evocative number of 1018 bottles of limited edition Grappa Cornalin and Syrah to celebrate Millenaria; the label displays the official bill of the Fair, kindly provided by the Autonomous Region of Valle d’Aosta.
The bottles will be sold and the earning will be fully donated to the recently formed Oggi per Domani per il Durante e dopo di Noi fund to support people facing disabilities. The fund is coordinated by The Disabilities Board of Valle d’Aosta within the Community Foundation.
“Sant’Orso Fair has always had a strong social connotation for the community in Val d’Aosta other than an important ecomomic and promotional value – Jean-Pierre Guichardaz (Councilor for Industry, Energy, Labor Policies) explains – it has always been a gathering moment for the inhabitants of the valleys. This charity event, which is organized thanks to an effort from both private and pubblic authorities, makes the idea of friendship and brotherhood even stronger and it helps to support all those families who face living with disabiles on a daily basis.”.
Oggi per Domani per il Durante e dopo di Noi fund promote specific and versatile projects for people with disabilities.
During their life they need a complete support by their families. This kind of support may come to an end due to difficulties, diseases, tiredness or death of relatives and family members.
At this stage it is important to start new projects in order to flank and pass on the know how, support the families and assure an adequate life to people with disabilities, other than keep their customs and skills.
This stage is called with and after us and support the home care and the inclusion to co-projects the “with us stage” with the person concerned and the families, by experiments and innovative actions as well.
